Trapdoor Spider

Because my life is currently boring. I decided to pull this from my archive.

Trapdoor Spider

"You really are childish", said Twin A, as if confirming someone else's opinion.

"Where did you hear that, your mom?"

"Yes."

Cool! Being childish is more fun than being old manish. The youngest has set his stuffed animals up on the sofa. Jeffrey, Steve, Snowy, Garfield, and Squidward are all in a row. My youngest is hiding under a blanket draped between the sofa and the coffee table. He is the trapdoor spider. He is learning about spiders in school.

It is my job to walk each animal past the blanket and provide amusing commentary as the spider pulls each one under. Twin A is doing his homework. It's late and he is tired. The concentration is not there. Twin B is watching the hockey game. I bounce little blue Jeffrey across the blanket. The tune "Walking On Sunshine" gets abruptly cut off as the spider pulls him under with a fit of giggles. Next, it's Snowy's turn. Snowy is contemplating a name change. Rainy,Wethead, or Socks. More giggles and Snowy joins Jeffrey. Twin B can't resist the allure of the fun. He crawls under the blanket and the youngest and I take turns bouncing the stuffed victims before him.

Before the boys were born I always thought I'd want to have daughters. After the twins were born I realized it was never going to happen. Our family is plagued by boys. I have two brothers. They each have a boy. I have three boys and my dad was an only child. Sure there is a lot to be said about having a daughter. No doubt if I had a daughter she would be spoiled rotten. But a movie like "Thirteen" is enough to make me glad I have boys. Besides, it's great just to be one of the boys.

  1. I Loved this Flashback of Fun Dad/Son Moments that are Memorable in only the best of ways. I agree, I'd rather be Childish, it's more Fun than being Old Ladyish or some Old Biddie, Heaven Forbid! I try never to get so Old that I forget what it was like to be Young. I've Raised both Boys and Girls, I think Boys are harder until their Teens and Girls are harder after their Teens, just from my own experiences and personal observations, I could be Wrong... depending on what Kid you might be Raising. After Two Generations of Raising Girls and Boys, I find that Boys are more apt to bond with their Moms/Gramma in Adulthood if you did a halfway decent job of Raising them. Our Girls are Great but they bonded more with The Man for sure, so he has that benefit of the Daddy's/Grandpa's Girls and I get the Boys. *LOL*

    1. Yes my boys are bonded to their mom. Which is not the best for them at their age.

  3. Mothers will always have their little boys, and Fathers will always have their little girls, no matter what the age of the child. There's something Freudian in that.

  5. Thanks for sharing the blast from the past. I try not to think about it too much but it is scary having a daughter sometimes. She is going to give me lots of sleepless nights. Have a good one.

    1. There pro and cons to both. Daughters are devoted to their fathers. Sons tend to mold into the wife's family.
