When we are young many of us are not concerned with our health and our bodies. We take them for granted. Now that I am older, I spend more time trying to preserve both to live longer. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Grammarly says I sound joyful. That is not the word I'd use.
Last week I installed new combination smoke and CO2 detectors for Alexis. She and her mom both bought sets. She conned me into taking the second set off her hands. I installed them in my condo last night. Now I don't have to worry about dying from carbon monoxide poisoning for ten years.
Sam's father's death has me thinking about the ways I do not want to die. Dementia is on the top of my list. I'd hate to think I preserved my body and lost my mental faculties instead. Perhaps I am just being morbid. I'm only fifty-six, but age once seems old to me back when I was only thirty.
One of my friends is still panic-stricken over Covid. She has been fully vaccinated but still has a great deal of fear. I am to the point where I am over any fear. I don't think I ever had much fear. At least not for myself. I worried about spreading it to others. Now I think it is time for others to worry about themselves. I don't intend to disobey any rules, but I will be getting out more. Otherwise, I'll have no stories to tell :).
I believe that we all, have some fear of aging, I'm in my late 60s, this past weekend reminded me about the fragility of life, to see those in my age group, passing away, Essie Mae, high school friend passed at 66 two weeks ago.. and so on and so on..
ReplyDeleteI believe we should all not take for granted the years we have left on this planet... and try to preserve ... Keep Writing Mr.
I am trying to write. My writing is not appreciated in this woke world.

The hard part of Aging, as my Mom warned me, is the Grief associated with the Loss of those that precede us and possibly being the 'last' one to succumb.
DeleteOh, I would not want to be the last of us.
DeleteI'm really over it, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd dementia's not bad once you begin forgetting everything. My Mom had a blast at her Senior Living facility. You know it's bad when your Mom looks at her watch as she's waiting for you to leave.
Oh Dave, I so agree, my Mom had advanced Dementia and it was in some strange ways, very Liberating for her and she used to look at her Watch as she waited for Visitors to leave... if she even remembered who you were and why you were there... she had things to do, Fun Activities awaiting her at the Long Term Care Facility... even in Hospice, I think she was Okay with whatever each day brought forth because the Forgetfulness helped her not to have those Anxieties and Worries that Sound Mind can torment you with. Of coarse, not to say Dementia doesn't have it's torments, but I know what you mean about the possibilities of having a Blast if the Body holds out and the Mind goes off to some distant place. I'd much rather not have my Body crap out first and be of Sound Mind to know exactly what's going on and agonize over the deterioration process.
DeleteNot being able to speak, take care of your bodily functions, or food scares me.
DeleteI have a Laundry List of ways I'd rather not Die... I fully intend to go in my Sleep, Peacefully, which sounds Idyllic since we all gotta go, Right? *winks* I have Sleep Apnea, which the Docs wanted me to use a CPAP and I'm like NO, it would ruin my Plans for that Ideal Death I've decided would be the Best and easiest way to Go into the Afterlife! I'm sure my Docs think I'm Insane. *LOL* I think we all get a heightened sense of our own Mortality when it is looming larger. In Youth, one doesn't actually Expect to Die Off prematurely, hence, we don't think upon it's possibilities of actually happening and the Reality of it can and does happen at any age actually. But, in Old Age you realize you probably got more Years behind you than in front of you now, so... you want them to have Quality and not just Quantity. I've seen deteriorated Old Age, it isn't for me. *Ha ha ha* I had to LMAO of not worrying about Dying of Carbon Monoxide poisoning for Ten Years... it's not a precaution I've ever thought of taking... I think you pass out or just don't wake back up... so, perhaps that's Why? *Smiles* I think Old Age is a Privilege not afforded to many, so I'm in that select Club now that has had extreme Privilege, especially given my Past and my Habits, of attaining it... who knew? Perhaps I would have taken better care of myself had I known...
ReplyDeleteI know CO2 poisoning actually sounds like a good way to go!
DeleteI’m over it, too. Went out to eat inside a restaurant for first time Saturday night. The plexiglass shields between tables is laughable. Air doesn’t travel higher than 6 feet? Lol. Masks outdoors? The CDC is run by those who’ve lost their minds.
ReplyDeleteMy dad passed from dementia. It’s brutal.
I am over it too. I went to a strip club over the weekend. No masks there.
