Counting all the assholes in the roomWell, I'm definitely not alone well, I'm not aloneYou're a liar, you're a cheater, you're a foolWell, that's just like me, ooh-ooh, and I know you tooMr. Perfect don't exist, my little friendAnd I tell you that again, and I do it again...Still Counting, Volbeat
I went to Alexis' house Wednesday night to get my hair cut. Alexis has a salon set up in her basement and has been only cutting hair at home since the pandemic. We discussed Ava and the latest news when Alexis commented, "I wouldn't want to pay someone just to be around me. I would just go bang, Harry."
Harry is a married guy she hooks up with. "Guys pay in one way or another," I tell her.
I didn't bother reminding her that Harry is married and only hangs around her because Alexis will have sex with him. Nor did I bring up the fact Alexis recently married a man she doesn't love in hopes that when he dies, she will get his life insurance, pension, and health insurance. They don't live together. Supposedly they don't have sex, although I wonder.
Alexis is in her early fifties. She has an underachieving son who plays video games all day and will probably never launch. Alexis is overweight, an alcoholic, and has a gambling addiction. If she were a guy, she wouldn't be able to pay someone to have sex with her, but that is not how it works for women.
I think I have solved my problem efficiently. Sure I could start dating someone like Alexis. Even in Detroit's depressing dating market, I swipe left on women like her all the time.
I don't pay, but then I'm happy the way things are with me, myself, and I.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, I think it is an acceptable solution.
DeleteI identify with Alexis. I am overweight and in my fifties. And single. And no guy ever comes near me. So no, it's not easier for women.
ReplyDeleteThe grass is never greener I suppose.
DeleteIt always seems like it might be, but no. We see our rough drafts but everyone else's polished finished pieces.
DeleteI just read a book "Woman Voices" after a certain age...we're fat, ugly, old. But if we have money it comes an different game.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
We all get old. Some of us age better than others.
DeleteI don't drink but I'm in my 50's, am overweight and single. But I'm not looking to date, hookup or anything else ever again. I could if I wanted to, I've been asked out several times since my husband passed away.
ReplyDeleteI think the point I was making is that Alexis is no different than Ava. She just would not admit it.
DeleteAh, I see. That very well could be.
DeleteI also meant to say that I love Volbeat. I liked the quote.
I like Volbeat too. It seemed appropriate.
DeleteI do like Alexis, that is why I did not strike back. She likes to instigate drama is all.
ReplyDeleteI think Alexis is just an older version of Ava and so she had to adapt her hustle, that's all.
ReplyDeleteI think you could be right.
DeleteAlexis does have a lot of the same narcissist traits.
DeleteIt also isn't just about age, weight, or looks. It's about charisma, soul, and the spirit of adventure. Sometimes it isn't even about sex. Who chooses our values?
ReplyDeleteTrue Alexis has a lot of charisma in small doses. It seems to come down to excess and money.
DeleteBTW I got your postcard over the weekend. Looks like a fun place.
